Well, my Halls Defence Drops got left behind in Pedee. We had gotten to the bottom of the hill by the time I remembered them and it was getting late and I didn't want to drive ALL the way back up there for them. We had to go to WinCo afterwards and didn't get home and in bed until almost midnight. Dan went right to sleep. I had to sit up because I couldn't breathe lying down. Yes, another grand night of not really sleeping very well. Blah.

Today I'm doing some laundry so it's not such a big load on Wednesday. I also cleaned the bedroom. As in I dusted and vacuumed and everything is in order. I feel like that is a major accomplishment until I leave the room and come into the office or the bathroom. I guess I'll tackle one of them tomorrow.

I keep staring at this post and not writing anything. It's time to think about lunch. I'm tired of thinking about food.
verity83: (cup runneth over)
All right. I think I'm back on track until the next busy day throws me into another 24-hour recuperation time of doom.

What I need to do today:
1. Iron the sheets and pillowcases. (No, I DON'T iron the entire thing. Just the cuff parts because they get crinkly in the wash and crinkles disturb my tranquillity.)
2. Clean up the kitchen. Thanks to Dan, there's a lot less to clean up this morning than there was last night.
3. Take a bath.
4. Tidy up the sewing room because it's honestly a disaster area.
5. Iron some clothes.
6. Vacuum upstairs.
7. Make the bed.
8. Finish reading one of my two books so I can feel less ashamed of myself when I make my end-of-month report.

***

I had a sandwich for breakfast. Tomato, lettuce, and leeks on rye. Best combination ever. I love leeks. I also had apple crisp.

Okay, off to get dressed and go for my walk, neither of which are on the above list.
verity83: (data spot)
I feel like there are probably things I SHOULD be doing, but none of them are getting done since I'm not really thinking too hard about what they might be.

I did vacuum downstairs. And dust. That counts for something. And finished Beth's other skirt. So glad that's out of the way.

We've been eating eFoods food lately. I was saying to Dan that we might as well eat it and he agreed. It's just taking up so much space in the shed out there... and I highly doubt we're going to have an emergency where we will actually need it. God will take care of us and we keep our buckets of actually practical food stocked, like wheat and rice and beans that we use all the time anyway.

I'm in a mild state of despair that our closets are so crammed. I am going to need to find a way to consolidate. The kidlet is going to need some space of his own somewhere.

The Kohl's battle is over. I knew I would lose. [livejournal.com profile] paularidgeway got hers delivered today.

I definitely just came up with the best title for her future tell-all book, too. Which reminds me how much I would enjoy a good laugh right now curled up with "My Mother's Keeper" and a bowl of specially-prepared frozen macaroni and cheese.
verity83: (Default)
Um... the dishes are done. Spot has been outside for a long time and apparently has no desire to come in yet. The recycling needs to be taken out, and then I must find something with which to occupy myself. Perhaps jacket.
verity83: (pie)
[livejournal.com profile] laughingmagpie, got the pattern in the mail today! Squee! Can't wait to try it. Of course, that means I have to go fabric shopping. Hmm. :-p

Well, I'm feeling mucha better today than I have been all week. In fact, I think I've done more this morning than I have done all week. I made the bed, put away laundry, planted pots of oregano, basil, and chives, watered the other plants, and did a couple days' worth of dishes.

Dan is still under the weather, though. Consider buying stock in grapefruit or oranges this week.

Better go check on Spot - he's outside enjoying some fresh air and probably unplanting my herbs. Then I must dust. Or something more fun. I'll see.
verity83: (pie)
Today:

1. Bread must be made.
2. GERMAN RAW APPLE CAKE MUST BE MADE. Sadly, minus cream cheese frosting. I heart cream cheese frosting. Out upon you, healthy vegan lifestyle. However, I WILL dust it with icing sugar because it will make me feel 33% avenged.
3. Come up with something to have for lunch tomorrow.
4. Make a post about Princess Buttercup's "I WOULD NOT SAY THAT IF I WERE YOU" dress at [livejournal.com profile] jorele
5. Vacuum.
6. Wash the floors. Actually all of them this time instead of just the kitch.
verity83: (pie)
Well.

The fridge was disgusting, after a manner of speaking. It hasn't been cleaned since we moved in. It is sparkly now. Spot wanted to help but he kinda got in the way.

The papers are done being shredded except for a few pieces I need to double check on since they look like medical records of some kind.

And I dusted.

Really, the only thing left to do is vacuum, but I may wait until tomorrow because I'm sure I'll be cooking for hours and stuff will be all over the floor again.

Oh, and there was some thick clump of residue under the kitchen sink that looked and squished like congealed beef fat, along with some dried brownish liquid that had gotten all over under there. It was quite vile. It got cleansed and purified down there, but I nearly threw up in the process. I still have no idea what it was. Besides just gross.

I'm craving something containing apples and walnuts. Hmmm. Four recipes from which I can choose.

[Poll #1360473]
verity83: (pie)
I enjoy days when I accomplish a bulk of my day's work before ten o'clock.

Of course, this means I have to get up and not be lazy in the morning.

So far this morning I made a pot of soup and a cake that is cooling. It is a slightly flat cake, but I think once the frosting is on nobody will care. *crosses fingers*

I have bread rising the oven now, so I should have all my cooking done before noon. Yay. That just leaves vacuuming and washing floors.

I sure love my kitty. He used to fit so comfortably on the top of the amp behind the DVD player. He still fits, but it took him longer to get adjusted. He's so precious. I just want to squish and squeeze him - gently, of course.
verity83: (pie)
I'm amazed at how much I can accumulate on my work table in a week.

Srsly.

I've found several balls of yarn, two crochet projects, a stack of old diaries, all my art stuff I've been using, my coloured pencils scattered hither and yon, just to name a few of the items thereon. I'm almost done now. I got a file folder for my crochet/knit patterns, so those are safely squirreled away now. Finished the crocheted kitty, except for eyes and a nose because I can't find my tiny buttons. Will look later. I took a picture anyway. He came out all right, but I think I'll not give him away because I could improve it.

Speaking of the kitty, things I would change:

1. Use a softer yarn to begin with, like the all-cotton yarn or even the homespun type or that microfibre stuff. Regular acrylic yarn has no give and kitty feels completely un-cuddly.
2. Enlarge the pattern. He's about 8" high, which is really cute and everything, but I was envisioning something a bit bigger, at least 12".
3. I think even a tinier yarn would help - baby yarn, even. Something you could use a really small hook with, so that the stitches don't seem so huge.
4. I'm also not really happy with the ears - they are not quite pointy enough to please me.

Better luck next time. It's a really cute pattern and I think with those changes it could make a lovely toy.
verity83: (pie)
I've managed to get a batch of bread underway, dust, clean the bathroom counter (a never-ending job lately because somebody with paws tracks water spots all over it, which dry and leave mineral splatters...), and now I'm in the middle of doing dishes. Oh, and I burned three discs.

I enjoy my job.

Goal for this afternoon: try to finish the book I started and get some more drawing done.

I might mention that today and yesterday Spot behaved like a rabid dog on his leash when we were walking. He is a very stiffnecked and rebellious cat and rolls and mews and won't walk. He must be in kitty teenagedom.

He walks fine when we go on hike-type walks. Why can't he walk around the block? I don't get it.

Eventually I won the battle and he did walk for about half the walk. I took him around some detours to make up for the time we wasted at the outset getting him to just... move.

I also saw a beautiful orange cat curled up by a house. He was darker than Spot, with more markings, but had a lovely face, despite the fact that he was glaring at me. I think Spot did not see him.

From [livejournal.com profile] nuranar:
For eight days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Day 1: Borrowers. Oh my.

I really, really had this thing going on in my head in my childhood that Peagreen and Arietty would get married. Is that just me? There was something about him I just always liked immensely - steady, older, and smart. Just what Arietty would need to keep even keel. Happy making.

***

Today I did laundry. I'm starting to feel like [livejournal.com profile] krikketgirl. I decided to wash the down blankets and the mattress pad too because it's been a while, so that made an extra load right there. I also iMic-ed all but one of the little records on our stack from Dan's mom. I need to go down and do the last one... got sidetracked by Pet Society.

Also need to think about dinner.

BOOK EIGHTEEN: The Borrowers Afloat

I always thought it was a tad bizarre that this book basically repeated so much of the end of the second book. All of them repeat information, so that anyone picking up any of the books can easily follow the story - but practically word-for-word reusing a chapter from the last book? Bizarre.

This book always seemed really short to me - perhaps because of the repetition. It is amazing how she made a whole book out of so few events and yet managed to keep it moving and interesting.

BOOK NINETEEN: The Borrowers Aloft

Always the second high point of the series for me following the first book. Obsession with hot-air balloon stories was definitely mine... I've been noticing this read-through I'm not finding the beginnings as annoying as I used to. When I was little I was like, "Hurry up and get back to the Borrowers already," but there's quite a bit of allusion and humour in those openings as well - especially the part about the Platters, which went completely over my head back then. I doubt I even knew what an undertaker was.

About halfway through the last book now. Always felt the last book had a different mood about it... but I'll see if I think that after I've finished it this time.
verity83: (WriterLew)
I haven't listened to "Messiah" in ages, and after this morning's post it seemed a good time to finally get around to doing it. I've just gotten to the part where it says, "And He shall purify the sons of Levi, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness."

So that got me to thinking about the sons of Levi and why they were special. Because the tribe of Levi was the only tribe who stood with Moses on God's side after the abomination of the golden calf, they were chosen to be the ministers of His Law and the keepers of His tabernacle.

Set apart.

I can't help but feel that this particular verse points forward to the time when Christ purifies the figurative sons of Levi: the ones who stand with Him in the end, when He calls out His people from Babylon.

Also, the smell of my apple-walnut cake is particularly spicy and tantalising. It won't be done baking for another half hour. Hungry it makes me. Again.

But I haven't touched chocolate all day.

The Elks must have something going on tonight. Parking lot has been getting fuller since earlier this afternoon.

I still haven't washed floors. I'm going to be doing well if I just get the kitchen done at this point. Blah.

And I wanted to take photos today, but that so didn't happen. Photos of books and Christmas decorations and assorted other things. Oh well.
verity83: (Default)
This morning as I went out walking in the pouring rain with no hat and no umbrella, thoroughly enjoying the bedraggled amusement I was probably giving the people driving by, I remembered something.

Tomorrow is the first of November.

The first of November=National Novel Writing Month Begins.

By some miracle I was able to sign in to good old NaNoWriMo.com.

And I have no idea what on earth to write about, but I'm going to give it a shot just like I do most every year. Who knows? I'm rosesforann there. Feel free to add me, although most of you probably already have!

Anyway, since I came home happily soaked, I've put another tray of pears in the freezer to freeze, vacuumed the house, dusted the house, cleaned the toilets and the bathroom counters, ironed a piece of fabric, and made the bed. Not necessarily in that order. I need to wash the floors and make tamale pie or enchiladas for Sabbath dinner but I thought I'd stop to read more [livejournal.com profile] ruthette first.
verity83: (Default)
The day is slowly becoming productive. I have a second load of laundry washing and the first one drying.

I've been grocery shopping with teh husband (where I bought the Western Family All Purpose Bleached Flour).

I picked up The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, three Elizabeth Speare books, two sewing books, and Jumanji at the library. New goal? Read a book a week. (No, Jumanji doesn't count.)

I cleaned out and organised the freezer for the first time since we moved. No wonder I couldn't find anything.

The fruit has to be together. The veggies have to be together. I am OCD with freezer organisation.

It won't stay that way, but at least it's a good start trying.

The fridge is next. If I'm not heard from in a few hours, check the crisper. It may have eaten me alive.
verity83: (Default)
I keep finding more boxes of fabric. I found two under the bed in between His Stuff and Her Stuff.
verity83: (angel Sylvia)
Note to self: When you cut out quilt squares next time, maybe you should IRON the fabric first. Because, you know, ironing quilt squares after they are cut out is a most annoying and time-consuming task. Thanks.

I just took out the trash and recycling and I'm all hot. So I'm sitting in front of the fan for a few minutes before I continue vacuuming.

Also, the kitchen floor accumulated a Layer of Sticky sometime in between last night and this morning. I would like an explanation for this phenomenon.
verity83: (al eye)
Things I have found so far in cleaning up:

1. Bobby pins with the sewing stuff on the table.
2. Seemingly exhaustive supply of pens with the sewing stuff on the table. And a letter opener.
3. Spools of thread that are blue and useful but were not in my thread box.
4. An almost-empty Fray Check bottle. I just threw away a very empty one the other day.

And my foot was in a helpful mood and found a needle. On the bedroom floor.

?!

Also, I have an official button box now. Since I have 144 buttons coming my way and all.

Ah, the joys of being me.

Back to the mess.
verity83: (Troi)
Well, although I did not do EVERYTHING on my list, my kitchen is sparkling clean and the table is clear except for my thing of furniture polish and the two latest magazines.

I got on a sidetrack project of removing all my DVDs from their cases. Dan ordered me a wallet thing to keep all of them in because the two shelves they're on are just really being space eaters. Figured we would take them to Deseret along with the rest of this junk he brought back from the homestead. So I have all the papers and booklets in a box now and I'm amazed at how much LESS space they will take up in my life in a wallet.

I did take out one bag of paper to the recycling. It is raining. I am using this as my excuse to not take out the rest.

Dan managed to go through some of this stuff. I think I'm going to need to prod him along to help me take the stuff to the car that will be going to Deseret. I really can't clean the living room until this stuff is relocated. I should take a picture. It's as bad or worse as any mess *I* ever had here.

[livejournal.com profile] paularidgeway made me this Deanna icon yesterday. I believe it will come in useful, although Space Cadet is hardly appropriate for Deanna herself. She's da bestest. I'm still not really into her and Riker as a couple, though. Riker is slowly becoming less annoying, but I have to say I'm more intrigued by Deanna+Worf. I know, I'm weird. But seriously... Riker is such a womaniser. Irritating. If he was more focused on Deanna, it would be different...

The following bit of dialogue was pretty priceless, though. From "The Game" (which was really good).

Riker: Chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge and chocolate chips. You're not depressed, are you?
Troi: I'm fine, Commander.
Riker: Would you like me to leave you two alone?

Troi: I never met a chocolate I didn't like.

How to eat a chocolate sundae: First of all, you have to spoon the fudge around the rim, leaving only the ice cream in the middle. Then you gently spoon the ice cream around the sides, like you're sculpting it. Relish every bit, make every one an event, and then, with the last spoonful, close your eyes.
Riker: I had no idea it was such a ritual.
Troi: Chocolate is a serious thing.

I think I need a Deanna chocolate icon. I will reward myself with one when I have concluded the cropping of my 2000 photos. (The year 2000, that is, not the number of photos.)

Oh, and I was asking Dan what he would do if he was to write an episode of Star Trek. He said he didn't know but it would involve someone being trapped somewhere. He asked me what I would do and I said I was intrigued with the idea of picking two characters that didn't seem at all in cohesion with each other and put them in a situation together, like Data and Worf. Then again, almost anyone plus Worf would make for an interesting hour of entertainment. I got a great amusement out of "Disaster" when Worf had to deliver a baby. "You have dilated 10cm. You may now give birth." Um... anyway.

As Ginny would say, Isssssssssssssuuuuuuuuuuues.
verity83: (Kate)
I finally went to sleep around three or half past that.

Now I am up and haven't the slightest idea what to do with myself once I wolf down my breakfast which the husband is cooking (steel-cut oats with some stuff mixed in like apricots). Sheets are due for a wash, so I guess I can do laundry. Other than that... hummmmm.

I could finish the sweater.

I have a couple blankets up in the closet needing to be finished too. It might get kinda warm to be doing that, though.
verity83: (Default)
Well... the bedroom has been cleaned. The pie has FINALLY been finished and put in the freezer and the kitchen is cleaned up, minus floors. The hall and bathroom are clean. Laundry done.

Now... herbs? Bleeeeeeeh.
