Today's food )

I really feel bleh. Something about standing making my smoothie brought on nausea yesterday morning and it's kind of doing the same thing this morning.

Also, when I came downstairs this morning I got assaulted by Downy Stench Wafting In. People who live behind us are apparently Downy addicts, and while I don't quite understand who does laundry at this hour of the morning anyway... had a coughing fit. Must remember to shut kitchen window at night.

Dan is on the verge of changing his mind about the boy's middle name yet again. I was like... three months left, now. But, it wouldn't really surprise me if he at the last minute decided on something totally new.

I can't say anything because I almost changed the girl middle name at one point, too, but decided against it.

Kari: oh the names just get better and better. Picking a name is soooo hard unless you already have an idea that you both agree upon. That's why our last baby (from 2008) was named Lazarath. Robert randomly said it and then we never bothered to change it. Ridicilous name!

Jael: Dan tried to talk me into Digory at one point
We've had the names picked out since before we were even engaged, though, so I'm just being facetious and keeping people guessing.

Kari: Digory! my goodness
not a bad name, but probably only those old people from Britian would have heard of it - or those who read Narnia
Robert can't keep his mouth shut so we never have anything a secret

No matter how insane/hideous the choices may be, Madison will NEVER be one of them. So Zizzy, relax.

These are yum incarnate. I had forgotten indeed how yum they are. I don't think Mr Baldwin even saw them in the fridge yet and like four out of the six I made are gone.

Oh, and what else? Mr Baldwin now wants our son's middle name now to be Ludwig.

I told him no.

Digory is bad enough. But I'd sooner have a kid with the middle name Digory than Ludwig.

I asked if we had a second boy if his name would be Eustace, then (another past suggestion). I have this mental image of other kids taunting him: "Hey, Useless Eustace!"

It seems to ME that we could just name the second kid, assuming we have a second boy at all, Digory Eustace Edmund Peter Caspian. That covers all the bases and we be done with it.

The really sad part? I do actually kind of like the name Eustace. But it would have to be relegated to a middle name for the reason stated above.

CASPIAN, on the other hand?

I feel like [livejournal.com profile] betteontoast now!

Top Girl Names of 2008

1. Isabella
2. Ava
3. Emily
4. Elizabeth
5. Abigail
6. Madison
7. Emma
8. Addison
9. Madeline
10. Olivia

Olivia is the only one I really like on that list, although Madeleine is lovely. And please, people, stop naming girls Madison. This is a crime against girlkind.

I rejoice that neither of the names we have picked for our girl are anywhere on the Top 50 for Girls this year. If we can just keep it that way, people, for a couple more years? Thanks.*

Top Boy Names of 2008

1. Aidan
2. Jayden
3. Jacob
4. Michael
5. Ethan
6. Caden
7. James
8. Caleb
9. Andrew
10. Matthew

I hate all of these except for 3, 4, and 7, which are good old standby Bible names. (Okay, 8-10 are Bible names too, but I've never liked them all that much.)

Our boy name is on the boy name list, but it's not much of a shocker because, oh, surprise, it's one of those good old standby names that's been in steady use for centuries! (And no, you can't know what it is yet.) Middle name is not on the list. Yay.

*If her middle name EVER makes a top 50 list, I'll officially go into shock.

My fakey chicken turned out MUCH better this time around. It is less tough, less full of large garbanzo chunks, and just in general better flavour. It's not such a murky grey, either - more golden brown. For lunch I used some with some leftover pasta from Donna and the rest of the asparagus for a yummy noodle thing. Put the rest in the freezer. I like to have it on hand for stir-fries and casseroles.

I also made bread. It smells and looks delicious except for one minor detail. I slit the top with a knife before the second rising because I wanted an artistic little cleft in the top of my loaves. The result was strange, blobular flab on the top part of the bread. Oh well.

I also read BOOK NINE! Prince Caspian. Quite good. I like the name Caspian. It's strange and exotic and royal, akin to Sirki or Sabien and so forth. It doesn't, however, remind me of Torquil.

Better go check on the load of drying apples.
