Yesterday Dan and I were watching a History Channel show on YouTube about the 2012 thing. It basically went back to all these ancient oracles of Greece, Rome, Europe, and so forth that predicted some sort of earth-shattering calamity in our time, talked about the Mayan calendar, repeated itself on points several times... anyway.
They also included the book of Revelation and I was very perturbed by the fact that a) their knowledge of the book is barely surface knowledge and have they EVEN read it? b) John has NO time prophecies in the book of Revelation. Daniel has time prophecies, and none of them pinpoint a day for the apocalypse. Jesus says He will come at a day and hour WE KNOW NOT... when those who are not waiting for Him will not be expecting Him.
I have no idea what will happen on that day in 2012. However, my understanding of the Bible gives me the assurance that I don't need to worry about it, because until Jesus comes, the earth will NOT be destroyed. He will either come before that date, when no-one is prepared, or He will come long enough after that date so that people will have stopped caring. Either way. I'm not worried about it.
There was also one man on the show who was scoffing at Christians for believing that Jesus' coming was right around the corner. 2 Peter 3.3,4 says:
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."
We have hope that those who don't have God are incapable of understanding.
Anyway.
