Book 36: God's Ten Rules. Ethel Maxine Neff, 95pp

I picked this up at the Corvallis church free book table... they were apparently spring-cleaning their library. The pictures are a little goofy, drawn by someone who was clearly trying very hard to do a good job but just lacked something.

A nice little introduction to the Ten Commandments for young children. It is written as a story where Mother is teaching the boy about the commandments and he has experiences that illustrate each commandment and learns why it is best to obey God's rules. The chapter on not committing adultery was handled so vaguely. I mean, I realise this is for very young children, but I couldn't help but feel that they could have said something like "God intends for people to marry and stay married and not run off with other people." Instead there was an unclear reference to a couple who didn't even sound like they were married who had a baby and the father ran away.

Other than that I thought it was very nicely done, as real children could relate to pretty much everything the little boy does in the book. There was also an extra chapter at the end about loving one's neighbour.
