Book 41: What to Expect When You're Expecting, Arlene Eisenberg. 436pp

I really thought this book would never end and I feel like I've been reading it for close to three months. Oh wait, it HAS been close to three months.

It's not like it was hard to read or unbearably boring, but I guess most of it was nothing new from the other 2-3 books I read. I did buy this one though so it's nice I have one in my house I can easily pull down and refer to.

It is full of good information and I like the way it is organised, making it easy to look something up. What I didn't care so much for, though, was its assumption that everyone goes to a hospital to give birth. I realise the largest percentage of women do. But the mention of midwives or even birth centres as viable and worthy options was barely touched on. I found that kind of annoying. I guess that's what one has to deal with when in a minority group.

Also, I really hope that in more recent updates of this book they have removed the part where it says to hyperventilate into a paper bag. Everyone knows that re-inhaling your carbon dioxide is a retarded thing to do... or don't they?

EDIT:
I'm really amused at how many bad reviews this book has on Amazon and LivingSocial. I wouldn't say I found the book a fountain of terror, perhaps because I pretty much mentally dismissed all I perceived as garbage while I read.

On the other hand, "Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth" has grand reviews and that makes me happy. That's easily the best one I've read so far. But we already discussed that.
